About Me

My name is Arielle Shander, and I’m an independent game designer and IT professional.

Since childhood, I’ve been drawn to technology’s vast potential in art, communication, health, and a nigh endless list of other crucial applications. Growing up in the ’90s, I’ve had the privilege of utilizing technology and watching it rapidly evolve into a tool that has transformed our world. I was fortunate to have computers, AOL dial-up, and an ever-growing variety of game consoles. My favorite game series is The Legend of Zelda; I love its emphasis on exploration, puzzle solving, and fantastical environments.

I studied game development (design and production track) at Montgomery College and The University of Baltimore. I also took a user experience design course via Springboard to improve and broaden my skills, and I received a user experience (UX) certificate in December 2018. I received a CompTIA A+ certification (220-1001 and 1002 editions) in 2019, and most recently, I obtained a ServiceNow Certified System Administrator.

I have worked in the game industry as a freelance designer at Red Aphid and as a game evaluator for Globaloria. I officially founded and registered Flow Wing Studios as a company in December 2017 and released a game called Spitfire Sheep, which is available on Android and iOS (note: the application is no longer offered on newer versions of Android and iOS due to new App Store and Play Store requirements). I designed the gameplay mechanics, demoed the game at conventions, performed quality assurance tasks, managed social media pages, and led my team.

I previously worked at Virtustream, International Litigation Services, and InRule doing incident management, technical support, and application support. I also volunteer for City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue as a cat adoption profile writer.

  1. You seem like an interesting person. I only just now found your page through searching for others that felt the same way that I do involving the whole ‘Zelda as an RPG’ debacle, but that itself warrants a bookmark as far as I’m concerned. I’m unsure of how active you are with this but I hope you sustain activity. ❤

  2. Thank you so much for the lovely comment! It means a lot to me whenever people take the time to give me some encouragement. 🙂

I admit, I haven’t been updating much lately. I’ve been making a lot of drafts, but I’ve been having a hard time finding the motivation to finish them. Part of the reason for this is because this semester has been demanding. The other reason is because I sometimes have problems finishing projects. Oftentimes, I’ll start something but not finish it. It’s a bad habit that I’m trying to kick.

I’m hoping that I can add more articles once my semester is over. I’m also considering doing some updates to my older articles. Plus, there are some more projects from this semester that I need to add to my “School Projects” page.

If you want, you can use WordPress’ “Follow” feature to get emails on updates. There’s also an RSS feed for both new posts and comments.

Thanks again for the comment. I hope you continue to enjoy my site. 🙂
